VIRTUAL PREPARATION

One day before leaving for Las Vegas, Tony Grano invites four players from across the country into a live session (online play) of the Xbox game Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (game involves counterterrorism operations in the city of Las Vegas). The goal of this session is to take four players that have never met, at different location across the country, have no tactical experience and teach them to use real-life techniques to tactically enter and clear a room within the game as a cohesive unit. Within 30 minutes, Grano achieved this goal by successfully leading his team through four room clearing scenarios. Myself and several other players were brought in to observe this “experiment,” and what we saw was pretty amazing. Not only did Tony have these gamers moving as a tactical unit in less than a half hour, they were communicating with each other and working as a team in a way that was more disciplined and strategically sound than is common for most gamers. Each scenario was captured on video by Lorenzo Catanag.
