Instructor Lee Frank
comments on the first U.S.N.S.T.A. SWAT Competition:
“The
SWAT Competition that we ran really captured what the U.S.N.S.T.A. is
about: police officers, SWAT officers, security officers, and military
operators coming together to develop training. It was great to see that
the other judges and I (all of us are long time SWAT Team Leaders) all
recognized the same good tactics and each of us recognized the same
mistakes that were made by the groups that participated in the
competition. All the judges were focusing on what each team did well and
areas that each team could improve on. When the judges compared notes at
the end of each revolution to discuss the team’s overall tactics, we
were surprised to find that while each team did the scenario a little
different from the others, the core tactics that each team used were
essentially the same. This is what makes the U.S.N.S.T.A. so great -- we
were establishing a standard without realizing it and identifying a way to
develop training to correct mistakes. Now we have some very useful
information to improve on next year.” |
