Controlled FORCE-Mechanical Advantage
Control Holds: April 4-8, 2005.
In September of 2004, we invited Tony Grano
with Controlled FORCE to our annual
Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT)
training. They provided demonstrations to
the leadership of CERT and were invited back
in November. In November, Controlled FORCE
demonstrated the techniques to several
Wardens from Kentucky and the Director of
Corrections Training. They were sold.
Last week, I was fortunate to attend the
Instructors Course of Controlled FORCE with
16 other Institutional Training Coordinators
from across the state. The training was
beyond my
expectations...excellent! Controlled FORCE
doesn't teach any strikes nor do they
promise any of the holds will work 100% of
the time. In my opinion, the biggest benefit
Controlled FORCE offered us as instructors,
and ultimately the staff at the institutions
we'll be teaching, is confidence!
The self-defense training we've received in
the past has been nothing more than how to
get away from an attacker. But, as I'm sure
you're aware, there are times when a staff
member gets cornered and there is no escape
route. Controlled FORCE provided us with an
escape route should all else fail...a
benefit of the training that is
intangible. The cuffing techniques will
certainly be of use during cell entries and
times when restraints are applied in
"extraordinary" circumstances. The ground
defense modules will be useful and were very
informative as well.
Overall, Controlled FORCE is a definitive
tool any correctional professional can use!
