Controlled F.O.R.C.E. has been invited to provide Close Range Subject Control training at the 2008 OLETC Mock Prison Riot (www.oletc.org/riot) and the 2008 SWAT Roundup International (www.swatroundup.net). The 9th Annual U.S.N.S.T.A. National Training Conference has been announced. On December 15-19, 2008, instructors from law enforcement, corrections, military, and security will join together to train and work toward establishing a national standard of training. Share Training Ideas on the U.S.N.S.T.A. Forum
In response to requests from its members, the U.S.N.S.T.A. (United States National Standards of Training Association) has created an open forum for instructors to share ideas. The U.S.N.S.T.A. Open Forum is also a great tool for conference participants to keep in touch and build relationships throughout the year.
The U.S.N.S.T.A. invites all Controlled F.O.R.C.E. certified instructors and U.S.N.S.T.A. Members to participate in the open forum to help promote safe and effective training practices and establish a national standard of training.

Maintaining a Safe Learning Environment
On February 29, Controlled F.O.R.C.E. will provide Kaneland School District 302 in Illinois with Self-Defense / Subject Control training for faculty and staff. In the wake of the recent shooting deaths at Northern Illinois University (NIU), the need for a system of training that enables educational staff to maintain a safe learning environment is more pressing than ever.
While events like those at NIU are examples of extreme threats to a safe learning environment, there are countless other threats that faculty and staff must deal with every day. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. will provide faculty and staff at Kaneland School District 302 with increased confidence and skills for responding appropriately to the potential threats they face.
Furthermore, the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. team is looking to help Kaneland School District 302 develop a functional emergency response policy that will increase safety while mitigating liability and risk of lawsuit. The blueprint developed by Controlled F.O.R.C.E. and Kaneland School District 302 can then be replicated around the nation, helping all school districts maintain a safe learning environment.

Level 5: Mobile Force Protection Training Package
To better meet the needs of law enforcement, corrections, and military (especially special response and high-speed teams), Controlled F.O.R.C.E. has reconfigured its Level 5 training program.
The program, also known as the Xtreme Training Package, delivers a fully customizable training that covers maximum information in minimum time frames with high levels of retention and muscle memory. The Xtreme Training Package allows the client to select the specific skills sets that they need to succeed in their operational environments, and then ties all the necessary training together into an integrated force response skills base for optimum situational control.
The Xtreme Training Package is provided by Controlled F.O.R.C.E. instructors and U.S.N.S.T.A. (United States National Standards of Training Association) consultants who are subject matter experts (SMEs) in the fields of Military Tactics, Law Enforcement Tactics, Corrections Tactics, Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection (AT/FP), Security Forces, Executive Protection, SWAT Tactics, Protective Services Detail (PSD), Evasive Driving, Close Quarters Battle (CQB), and Small Arms Weapons.
There are a wide variety of specialized training needs currently not being met in all sectors. With the support of Controlled F.O.R.C.E. instructors and U.S.N.S.T.A. consultants, the Xtreme Training Package will provide solutions built to the specific operational needs for the environments that clients are responsible for serving and protecting.

Modernizing Use of Force Policy
More and more departments throughout the nation are enhancing or replacing their subject control training programs with the M.A.C.H. based system of Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Unfortunately, most of these departments are not modernizing their written use of force policy to reflect the flexibility that the M.A.C.H. system affords.
The Collin County Sheriff's Office in Texas recently realized the need to update their use of force policy for precisely this reason. The Sheriff's Office solicited Controlled F.O.R.C.E. to help them re-write their policy around the M.A.C.H. system. The Controlled F.O.R.C.E. team was able to help the Collin County Sheriff's Office write a policy that more clearly defines an officer's reasonable response while actually increasing the flexibility in which an officer can respond without diminishing the appropriateness of the response.

Training Review: Level 1 & 2 at Tacoma, WA
The Tacoma Police Department hosted a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Close Quarters Subject Control Instructor Course on February 11-14, 2008. Officers came from across the State of Washington to learn subject control skills that enhance whatever program each department already has in place. One officer even traveled from Idaho (where Controlled F.O.R.C.E. is P.O.S.T. Approved and a mandated program for master level instructors) to attend the training.
In
addition to the course attendees, several officers observed the training to see
how the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. system could offer a viable solution to
transferring subject control skills and how the system could integrate into
training programs already in place.
Based on its straight-forward approach to defensive tactics, its ease-of-use, high rate of retention, and adaptability into other systems, the Washington State Patrol Academy and Spokane County Sheriff's Office are already working on scheduling an instructor course at their location.
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. would like to
offer a special thanks to Officer Albert Schultz with Tacoma PD for recognizing
how the program could benefit officers in Washington state, and for pushing to
bring the program in to the area.
The Controlled F.O.R.C.E. system is built on subject control concepts that are
easy to teach to any officer, which is beneficial to departments with limited
training time.
